Spiders on Sofas in Sunglasses and Skirts

#1

Post by BrianMac »

I'm hoping this new sub-forum will be a place where members will post their own puzzles of any kind. I know there are a number of crossword constructors who participate in the forum, so I thought it would be cool to have a place to "self-publish" these to a friendly audience. The idea is that whether you are a seasoned pro or a beginner at designing crosswords (meta or not) or any other kind of puzzle, you could post here for fun and/or feedback. I've shared a few meta puzzles I recently created in the Acapulco Lounge and the feedback I've gotten has been a tremendous learning experience. You can post your own links here or you can email them to me (brianmac@xword-muggles.com) and I can host them for you and provide you a link.

Today I am offering up a meta crossword awkwardly titled, "Spiders on Sofas in Sunglasses and Skirts" (if that doesn't help you solve it, I hope it at least makes sense after you do). The answer to the meta is a phrase describing certain entries in the grid. I hope you enjoy it.

I will post an explanation of the answer sometime Sunday afternoon or later.

:o Spiders?!? On my sofa?! Brian, you are pushing my buttons with this one. But thank you once again for some staycation entertainment.

I stole ...er, I mean borrowed... one of Joe Ross's excel templates and made a blank template for this puzzle if anyone else would like to solve via excel.

This is my first attempt at using OneDrive so please holler if you have problems accessing...

Another good one, Brian! Enjoyed the funky title, and you were right - it was more of a confirmation than a hint, at least for me.

Cool construction, and it gave me plenty of resistance until I saw the light.

Agree with Les, and . . . I'll save an additional remark until later.

Thanks, Brian!

still fighting the meta on this one, the grid, not too bad, but ... looking under the sofa for things that go bump.

I'll take a nudge/hint. Just a wee dram, not too much.

wee dram and bam, on the shore.

:)

EDIT 1: now I have to see about that spider - sounds scary.

EDIT 2: of course, it's from "down under" - all things down there are ... strange.

EDIT 3: nice construction, now I'm tempted to work on a few of these - had some ideas for themes/answers earlier today, now need to do the hard part.

Possible that you’d be willing to share that wee dram. I’m going nuts.

Well, I got it. But it took tumblers, not jiggers, of help. And I did enjoy the struggle, so thank you. And keep them coming.

Finally got it! It took a nudge, but it was a very satisfying aha. I also can’t believe I didn’t see it sooner.

Good puzzle, Brian! I believe you have a real feel for this.
