"Talk to the Hand"

Post by damefox »

Welcome to Muggle Meta Mondays! This is my first stab at an MMM puzzle. I hope you enjoy it! I would rate this one as a pretty firm couch (firm couches are easier to get off of, right?), or if you want a more quantitative measure, hovering around a Week 1 on the MGWCC scale. (For a more difficult meta, try Will's Weekly Meta from yesterday.)

The answer to the meta is a two-word phrase. PM me your solution by 4pm on Sunday. Have a great week!

Go Damefox! Look forward to tackling at noon.
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

Off the couch!

My favorite clue: 4D. I love a good variety cryptic nearly as much as a good meta.

Congrats, damefox, on your first MMM!

Just started the grid; 5D was a gimme but wouldn't have been five days ago. :)

Pretty sure I solved it, but it looks like my PMs are getting stuck in my Outbox? I'll wait and see before sending a third PM. :)

PMs stay in outbox until the recipient opens it. In which case it moves into your sent

I actually wrote that clue before last week's WSJ Contest - 20A in that puzzle was a gimme for me!

Fun one! 30D, while not a gimme, was a lot easier than it would have been a few weeks ago.

Nice job, damefox! Could easily see this as a themed WSJ, Monday or Tuesday. Very polished feel to the grid / cluing, etc.

I'm glad you mentioned this clue, because I went to look at it to remind myself what is was, and frustratingly there is a typo in it that I didn't notice because my French is not as good as it used to be. It should say, "La classe de danse," not "La classe de dance." Doh! This is in no way related to the meta though.

Agreed -- although I got Naticked with 29A/11D/26D, the fill was very clean.

Sadly, I'm not nearly cultured enough to have noticed that. And I probably only would have noticed had I needed to Google it.

Off the couch. Thanks damefox for the meta.

I enjoyed the clue for 29D (we just watched that movie last night!) and 4D.
