This week’s contest answer is a team in the National Football League.

Rest up, Matt!

Week 2 OK! Matt noted on his blog that he’s sick and in bed today. Hope he feels better soon.

Beam me up! Went down a rabbit hole that actually led me to the right answer, dropped it due to inelegance, found the real path, got the same answer, on the board.

On the board! Just realized I've got no more pending metas for the weekend, guess I'll need to find a real hobby...

Got it on my own but had to use Google to make sure that it was a unique solution.

I think I have the answer but I'm going to sit on it a bit longer, because I am feeling uneasy about it. Unlikely to actually find a second route to an answer, though, so I'd say there's a good 30% chance I'll submit a wrong answer this week.

Update: I got it. My lack of confidence might have been due to damefox's nit.

Huh! Maybe I found the rabbit hole instead of the real path, and just lucked out?

Solved! Pretty sure. Waiting for the board to update. Solid week 2, although I have one minor nit that I won't go into now for fear of giving too much away.

Update: on the board!

I was ready to go right as it posted determined to make a non-scroll ranking on this one. I filled in the long clues first, had those done in just minutes. And nothing. Filled in the rest of the grid, and nothing. Then got taken away for it again for a bit. Not this week I guess! See you again when I find my way to the solution!

I would guess you found the real path - the rabbit hole was deep in the weeds, even for me  but who knows!

82 solvers and 14 posts three hours in seems kind of slow for a week 2, no?

Wow, that took longer than it should have. I got fixated on one answer and could free myself from its’ evil spell. Get well soon, Matt. We need you in a good mood when you concoct the week 3.

Forgot to post when I solved it. #6 on the board (more exciting to make the top 10 later in the month, but I'll take this!).

Is extensive sports knowledge necessary to solve? 😂
