MGWCC #757 - “A League of Their Own”

An excellent puzzle written by one of the innovators of the meta crossword format. It comes out every Friday at noon and increases in difficulty throughout the month. Available for modest subscription (worth every cent) here: www.xwordcontest.com

I am a hybrid solver in sometimes I do a puzzle to get the meta (i.e., once I get the meta, I'm done) versus finding the meta and/or grokking what's going on but then enjoying the ride for the rest of it.

And this was the latter, since this was definitely one I wanted to complete. Pretty creative fun, from an initial, "What in the world is this?" to "Huhhh?" to "Ohhh, okay." Great start to December!

Awaiting transporter beam. Glad it was a week one. I'm assuming the MMMM will drop soon. And I like a relaxing weekend.

I opted for specificity. But I can't imagine the simple answer wouldn't also suffice. Given you're on the board, it does.

Late start. Would have been top 30 if I had been home to start at noon instead of lower 200s.

Fun concept.

Okay... not a good week. 3 out of 6.... 4 out of 6 with Pun of a Kinds all *ten* nudges. But this and the WSJ were straightforward at least. But late start to both of them.

Beamed up at #251. Tricky grid, in my opinion.

My apologies, haha. (It did play more like Level 4).

While I knew the answer before filling in grid all the way... definitely seemed (to me at least) harder than a week 1. Very fun and worth filling in the grid all the way.
