Very satisfying. My Google research showed a typo in the pole vaulter clue.

Ready to beam up!
Check out "The MOAT Mini Pack of Marching Bands" here. US$5 gets you 7 Marching Bands which, hard enough on their own, now contain metas too. And once again there's a mega-meta! :D

My first "week 3" solve in ages...even if it was easier than the usual, I'll take it.

Finally on the board at #279, thanks to a helpful "keep doing what you are doing" kind of nudge. I will try to remember that it helps to write things out, even if you have already written them out a few times already.

I have been beamed up for the first time! This was a fun puzzle, and the solving felt a bit outside the box compared to recent WSJ solves, which is exactly what I was looking for!

while it wasn't hard I'll say it wasn't easy. There was one very misleading aspect that was very difficult to overcome and if one didn't overcome it, it was quite impossible. Of course, it turned out the way to overcome it was.... to completely ignore it. But ignoring things when you have little to go on at the beginning is very hard to to do.

Sure! PM me.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

woozy wrote: Fri Jan 20, 2023 4:26 pm I'd say it's not that easy as there's a rabbit hole that is actually more compelling than the true path and that uses the same mechanism but gets nowhere.
I feel like I'm in it.

Not planning a zoom date night for Sunday yet....but looking pretty likely

This one was relatively quick for me. This week's WSJ, that was apparently the easiest ever, took a long time.

Took a shove. Usually I would not even attempt a week 3, but I knew Matt was doing penance for last week’s supposed “week 2.”

In his defense, he used the Soviet-era spelling used in TV graphics and Sports Illustrated articles when he was active. Not unlike when people do pre-2022 crosswords and get confused about "Kiev" being in the grid, I suppose.
