What a fun one! I’m amazed at how Matt can create these puzzles. I finished the grid Saturday and sat it on the table and forgot about it (after an initial look and shrug). Then I glanced at it during lunch today and it smacked me in the face.

Well I think I have it!!! Saw something I had seen before and backburnered that just could NOT be a coincidence. If this is correct I agree with other posters in saying wow, just wow. If not I gave it my all. Have spent hours on this one!

OK, am I overthinking this? Since I found all the creatures, there is an aspect of each and every one that tells me what the answer has to be, but I'm looking for a step 2 that will confirm it.
Should I just go with what I am sure must be the answer? Or is there a step 2?

OK, this is either a Week 2 disguised as a Week 4, or there's a very elaborate mechanism that I'm missing out on. But the answer came to me like within 3 minutes of finishing the grid and that can't be right.
Otoh, I missed the Week 2 puzzle this month so what do I know?

OK, I'm going to assume it's the obvious one that I keep thinking I need a Part 2 to get.
But if I'm right, Matt is wrong -- I actually have seen not just one, but many of these.

Yup! On the board. This one was particularly satisfying, because a lot of hard work paid off. In the end, it’s a very solid meta.

All I've got so far is eyestrain and migraine. Anyone feeling benevolent will find me a grateful nudgee.

It's ok, I'm #226 on the board, so I got it.

Well, I just went to Gaffney's site to submit my response, and the submission form is closed. I sent my answer in by email, but maybe he'll re-open the form.

Just submitted my Hail Mary before I forget by tomorrow morning, it's an answer that came to mind way too quickly but just didn't feel quite right, we'll see what the board says...
