What I want to know is how old is the youngest person who got 59A without either the down words or having to look it up
The doctor is dating himself (and me)

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Hmm.... my 45s were all of the Soundtrack to "Jules et Jim"....
I had a weird childhood.....

So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Perhaps it was the Fleer factor?ChrisKochmanski wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 11:33 pm Oddly, it was always “Did Your Bubblegum Lose Its Flavor …” when we sang it way back when in the ‘hood. That’s what I thought it was. Anyone else? Hmm … Wonder why we made that schoolyard change. Musta preferred the sound of “bubblegum”.

[*]Got it. Another fun one from our favorite doctor.

If you're old enough, you might have some 45s that had a small hole in the middle instead of the big one. For example, my copy of Six White Boomers (snow white boomers!) looks exactly like this one: Since we're officially in Christmas season, here's a representative version of the song*. Oh, I remember those well, note that you could take the middle out for the "traditional" 45 record configuration. I could never figure out why they made two different types, I would have thought that going with the default small hole would have been wise. The big one might have stolen "disc space" for the 33 1/3 LPs but there would have been no reason I could see to have the bigger hole. The 45 came second so....hoover wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 11:43 amIf you're old enough, you might have some 45s that had a small hole in the middle instead of the big one. I am sure there is a logical and either engineering, mechanical or monetary reason why but I never heard it.
I also remember Rolf Harris, I think everyone must have sung his songs at one time or another (of my generation). Apparently the magistrate "tanned his hide when he pled Fred, tanned his hide when he pled - tanned his hide when he pled Fred and that's it hanging on the Yewtree...

Absolutely, they converted the big central hole on 45s into a small hole so they could be played on all turntables. I never had colored ones.Bob cruise director wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 10:05 amSo you must know what these areoldjudge wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 6:19 pmLOL, tell the truth—you had the 45 when you were growing upWendy Walker wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 5:41 pm Hey, gentlemen, I knew 59A sans Google! The only 45 I know is (more or less) my age. I am unfamiliar with the various doohickeys posted above. I have no idea what 59A is referring to. It probably does not help that I've been living on another continent for the past 40 or so years.
That being said, I did solve the meta.
Thanks for the puzzle @DrTom!

But I wanted that (Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport) to be the answer to "The Totally Real Benchen etc. etc.'s" recent puzzle!
Re: this one -
Test solved an earlier version but was glad to do the new grid.
Thinking like @MaineMarge so I'll say -
