MEOW #79: Bring Up the Rear

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

I certainly don't have it. Sadly the nudges were ... already considered.

Once again I needed remedial nudges to solve, but the cat is finally free.

Cat's out and... "bringing up the rear" which in a cat's non-verbal means "enjoyed that" :D

Okay... I'm beginning to wonder what in heck I can possibly be missing. There's only a finite number of things "bring up the rear" can mean and yet this puzzle is as impenetrable to me today as it was on Wednesday. And it sure is beginning to look as though I am the absolute only one.

I'm still with you @woozy. I think we need remedial nudges - two nudges just wasn't enough!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

I guess I couldn't get it because I had....

Oh, never mind.

So really? It's come to this XWord Muggle Forum, has it?

Sorry for the late reveal!

The answer is COLONOSCOPIES. Found by going "up" one cell from the "rear" letters of the words in the themers.
