MEOW #122: Pas de Deux

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

Cat's out of the bag - thanks, @whimsy! I was pointed to your puzzle by the Zoom room crowd, who were singing its praises (with good reason).

Thanks, too, to the Friday zoomers for word-of-mouth...

Also, don't let the (#)'s imitimidate you.
They're only applied at the end.

Solved with nudging help. Vey cool aha moment!

Don't mind if I pas de deux! I might dip into the nudges later, but I want to see if I can figure something out first! Ginger Cat, come help me!

Edit: Calling for Ginger Cat must have been enough. The cat is out nudge-free, and I left with the biggest smile on my face due to the reveal. Great connections, and that's what the meta world is all about!

Late to the party here - on vaca this weekend - but freed the feline with the help of a few nudges. Clever mechanism and a fun answer... really enjoyed this one, whimsy!
