Hello, World!

Post by adamsimonlevine »

After a long hiatus, I'm delighted to return to Muggle Meta Mondays! Thanks to Peter and Al for their amazing feedback and for agreeing to run this puzzle, and to Joe for his tech help. I think this is about a week 3 on the Gaffney scale, but as my undergraduate students can tell you, I am not always so good at evaluating how difficult questions will be...

I'll provide some occasional leaderboard updates, and nudges on Wednesday. As always, feel free to message me the answer or if you need a hint. (This is my first time uploading a puzzle to Crosshare, so let me know if you find anything buggy about the version there.)

I’m off the couch, confirmed on Crosshare.

Very nice puzzle!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

A knotty meta that unraveled quite nicely. Thank you Adam!

Off the couch. My brain woke me up to solve this one!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

I made a wrong assumption about the mechanism before I realized it was more elegant than I had thought.

I'm still on the couch, but I'm having fun ruminating on this puzzle! Great grid so far, so wish me luck on unraveling the meta!

Edit: Off the couch - fun and elegant!

Hmmm, ever get where you are convinced there is only one possible mechanism but you can't make it work, but you can't convince yourself there is any other or any other as good?

I'm there. I'm utterly convinced there can't be any other mechanism than what I am trying. But.... it doesn't work....

Not a meta, but, yeesh!, that was tough to create.
