Meta-thesis
“What is so rare as a (Mon)day in June?” That’s the only line from that poem that anyone remembers. All the rest is forgotten, deservedly too, except perhaps “Every clod feels a stir of might.” And so, clod that I am, I give you a Monday meta that might stir, i.e., might stir things up just a bit, if you know what I mean, and you will know what I mean once you’ve solved it, which shouldn’t be too difficult.
The answer is a surname.
Send me your answer via PM, or for immediate gratification, tell it to Crosshare.
I had a hard time coming up with theme entries for this one. Still, it’s a fun game to play. So if you have your own suggestion for an entry and its clue that I could have substituted as part of the solution, please include that in the PM as well.
Thanks to Abide and Al Sisti for shepherding this one along its way.

Oh, you are a clever cuss.
Very hard grid but I *loved* the mechanism.

I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

Well, the twenty-ninth of February is pretty rare but the fifty-first of October is even worse.Bird Lives wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 7:46 am “What is so rare as a (Mon)day in June?” That’s the only line from that poem that anyone remembers.

Awesome puzzle -- tough grid and a tricky 67D even after I'd guessed the answer. Thanks for the challenge, Jay!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

OTC. Thanks for the puzzle, and the brain workout. This could easily be a WSJ. Excellent quality.

Great job, Jay! I thought the grid was tough, but I understand the reason and the meta was very well done.

Certain I am off the couch even if not yet confirmed. The solution made me chuckle, even as I did several "WHAT'S" when filling the grid. Tempted as I am to comment on 49A, I will not. I WILL say I knew the next few line of the poem though:
What is so rare as a day in June?
Then if ever come perfect days;
Then heaven tries earth if it be in tune...
Result of a very odd schooling that included poetry, Latin and Roman History.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

As I wrote to Jay earlier:
Absolutely LOVED this puzzle. A classic meta that should be used to teach folks how to solve a meta. Great themers, title, and connection of answer to theme. Will be curious to see how many solve. This puzzle is what I long for every time I work on a meta . . . . Thank you!!!!!
