So the meta is a hit song from the 10's.... Quite literally I think I know more about about songs from the 1910s than I do about songs from the 2010s.
EDIT: Okay. Didn't matter..... (Dogs are so much fun, it didn't matter I had never heard of the song). Anyway the answer to the Meta was not "Over There" (which is a very popular song from the 1910s that I say to my dog all the time.)
EDIT 2: There I am at 48....
EDIT 3: I might even know more about songs from the 1810s than I do about songs from the 2010s. That Fur Elise sure is catchy, isn't it? Not that I ever say that to my dog that frequently.... though she does shed....

Botched this one because I thought the answer had to be one particular song. Can someone DM me the answer?

I had the exact opposite experience, which is non unusual for me with Pete's metas. Lots of stuff I didn't know, and even with crosses ended up with a couple blank squares I had to google (plus one I did know which it turns out I was misspelling). Got the meta without too much fuss.
Just for fun, I asked google for a list of hit songs from the 2010s and 1910s. Got 50 titles on each list. For the 2010s, I'd heard of exactly one of them, and that was only because it was the answer to an MMMM from a few years ago. For the 1910s, I knew more than a dozen.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Okay, in Googles 55 thumbnails for hit songs of 2010 I have heard of 8 of them. (A few of them I thought were 2000s)
And of the 15 thumbnails for hit songs of 1910s I only heard of 1 of them. But this are only songs the have recent videos of. Must try something else.
Okay, arbitrarily selecting https://davesmusicdatabase.blogspot.com ... -1919.html and from 100 songs I've heard of:
34 (but there were several repeats-- Over There was on it over 5 times. With repeats it would have been over 40)
And the equivalent for 2010s ... well I'll do this one https://www.billboard.com/charts/decade-end/hot-100/:
14 (although 2 or 3 of them I would not recognize if I heard them; I only knew the titles)
It's official. Not only do I know more about songs of the 1910s than I do about songs of the 2010, I don't even think there is anything humorous or ironic in the statement; it's just an existential statement of fact.

Grid solved, still
I notice Pete said the song is from the '10s, but he did not specify which century. There may be hope for a like me

Me too. On the board, that is.
As for pop hits, the last one I really remember was probably from around 1975 or 1976, so, yes, I needed to google for this one.

The metas where I see the first step immediately and then am quite clueless scare me the most. I'm superstitiously posting here so that I can avoid meta purgatory this week (or rather month I guess).

I was sure I submitted the red herring guess already and gotten a message that it was incorrect. Last month I was wondering where I went wrong, but you can only guess once. This month I was really wondering what else it could be so I thought what would happen if I tried to resubmit. Not really breaking any rules if I submit the same answer. It was right. I tried to find the email that said I was wrong, but no luck. I just wanted to post in case anyone else had the same situation. I probably put it under the mega meta or something silly, but since I can’t find the email I’ll never know.

Solved, awaiting confirmation. Very clever meta!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!
