Native Tongue
Forgive me for getting all inside-baseballish and disclosing secrets, but not long ago the MMM powers-that-be sent out an SOS to the effect that the the well was running dry. Yikes, and we’re only halfway through the season – the All Star break. I hastily cobbled together a puzzle in response hoping that it will raise the water level sufficiently till other puzzles from other constructors come flooding in.
Many thanks to @abide for suggestions and encouragement.
The answer is a six-letter proper noun.
Difficulty level: towards the low end of the scale. Some of the themers do not conform perfectly to the idea of the puzzle. So I encourage solvers to submit, along with the solution, alternate entries and their clues. PM me here, or for instant gratification, solve at Crosshare.
Nudges Wednesday if I can think of any good ones. Closing time, noon Saturday.

Off the couch.
Good one, though I needed google for some of the grid.
Less than what I had originally anticipated, so thanks for the kind crossings!

Submitted, and waiting for confirmation.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

🛋 Fun!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

🛋. I have to admit, it took me a little while to figure out what you were aiming at. That said, I loved the clues—great job Jay.

Ha! 5A I love that you know of him! I haven't thought of him in ages.... Okay.... now onto the third entry....
I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

A challenging (had to Google a few) grid, but understandable given what you pulled off! Amazed at the creative way you… well… you know. Off the couch and back to work after an extended meta-lunch break!
The other Wendy.
