A&Q

#1

Post by Bird Lives »

It’s Labor Day, the end of the summer. The Monday Muggle Meta is closing down its lakeside cottage, pasting the labels on the last Mason jars of tomatoes and peaches, and relegating its white shoes to the back of the closet. (Is no-white-shoes-after-Labor-Day still a thing?) With all that, MMM still manages to bring you a puzzle. It’s not giving too much away to tell you that the meta is not related to Labor Day except that in keeping with the spirit of the holiday, it should not, I think, require much work. But what do I know?

Most of the theme clues in this puzzle are not original with me. I had to leave a few of mine, along with some other good ones, on the cutting-room floor. I encourage you to submit your own along with your answer. All these will be posted along with the solution Sunday morning.

Nudges Wednesday whether you need them or not.

The answer provides many examples of the A&Q format

Off the couch! Fun puzzle, @Bird Lives.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Off the couch and waiting for confirmation but 99% confident.

I asked for extra credit for having been to 1A and 45A - and survived

Confirmed - very clever and well executed meta

Off the couch! Kind of guessed what it was early on but wanted to see the “get cute”. Loved it, and as you can imagine I have a bunch of the mentioned examples which I’ll get to on the computer and not this tiny phone.

Thanks Jay for a Labor of love.

IS THAT why they have your picture in the post-office at both places? I wondered.....

We are laboring at our own pace this holiday, so this was a fun one to break up the monotony of the chores! Thanks so much for the great puzzle!

I’m off the couch. Excellent crossword and a fun meta!
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)
