Yeah, I was stumped for a starting point for a few minutes after finishing the grid, but then the meta jumped right out at me.

The answer took me back to senior year of high school, for better or worse.

Solved! I'm liking this gentle start to the MMMM year.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Woohoo. First on the board. And as I said to Pete in my submission, very excited for his rendition of this song. It's a good one.

I'm partial to another hit by this artist, but definitely like this one. I'm a child of the 60s/70s.

Solved. But when I hear the title, all I can think of is the version from Histeria, a wonderful kids cartoon show based loosely, very loosely, on real historical events.

That perfectly describes my solve as well.
Anyone else here from the Brave New Waves/Nightlines generation of Canadian music?

FINALLY got it. Took me long enough. I blame Canada.
Not the country, per se. But the fact that I am there, well… here, in British Columbia, skiing at Whistler/Blackcomb, an amazing pair of mountains. And it snowed the past couple of days. So having fun in the powder seemed a little more fun than solving the meta.
Have to say, I was hoping the answer was a different hit. But I can’t imagine PM could manage to fit that alternate song into any sort of conventional metanism. I mentioned that song to my kids yesterday and my son said, “I think that song taught to kids in school here.” Not sure about that. But it played in the lodge at the top of the mountain while I was eating lunch today. I’m sure many of you can guess what song I’m thinking of.
