I have what must be the first 2 steps, but I am firmly stuck there.

On shore — much easier than I expected, given the low turnout so far! Something fun and fruity, I think, complete with little paper umbrella.

Just wow. On shore. Happy Veterans Day to everyone who served. I’m cheering you with a glass of Bourgogne.

When am I ever going to learn that when I see the title and think "Ooh, I bet I know what they are playing at" that that is always a bad sign.

Just completed the grid and haven't really started but ... not seeing what I bet they are playing at.
I guess I should change my signature, and start promoting this meta: Hungry Little Creature. I was going to sent it to people for testing but I dropped the ball on it.

My wife and I think we are on to something, but are afraid we are staring down a big rabbit hole, we would like a nudge to say we are close or badly off track

Ashore!

With a nudge from a kind Muggle. (I won’t enter for the mug.)

No kidding, what a construction.

Bravo, Mr. Berry!

On shore, I think. I submitted an answer that makes sense, but I think I skipped a step to get there.

Nice, fun themeless from Patrick Berry.

I'm sorry, what?

I'm being told it's a meta.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Solved……I should say my husband solved. He gave me the first step. I stared for a long time and then he said “why don’t you……”. And that was the rest of the story. I almost never submit. I sure hope he wins the mug!

I was so pleased with myself when I saw the first step. Surely the rest of it would be one of the usual things. But nope. Still have the obvious starting point and no idea what to do next.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Ashore. Early zoom with the kids as one of them is busy tomorrow (our normal time). Nice construction! Agree that it's pretty amazing he came up with this and it worked!
