"Look Both Ways" by ajk

Formerly known as the “Sunday Summer Substitute”, editor Cap'n Rick now takes the helm for 'Smooth Sailing Sundays'. As The Commodores sang about Sunday morning, the SSS will focus on easier metas. SSS will also support smaller grids and will mentor new constructors on request. Puzzles released each Sunday around 8am Eastern. Nudges released same day at Noon Eastern. New constructors are welcome.

Happy Sunday. :)

The recent discussion of 'classic' (or not) TV, put me in mind of other things classic, which led naturally to music. I'm very confident that today's answer qualifies as a classic rock song, but the path to the solution doesn't require any prior knowledge of the song. A quick google of the two words should confirm it. Overall, this should hopefully be a pretty breezy Sunday solve. Indeed, if I had the lack of wisdom to try and predict a difficulty level, I would consider it pretty ea...straightforward.

Thanks to @Abide, @Wendy Walker, and @Cap'n Rick for test solving, and for some suggestions to straighten the path a bit.

As usual, thanks to @Joe Ross for tech support, especially for this one, as it was a pretty quick turn-around.

The meta answer is a two-word classic rock song.

Nudges later today, if needed. And I am of course always available via PM for additional help. Reveal on Saturday.

Hope you enjoy!
cheers,
Alan

Sssolved! Fun one. Thanks, Alan.
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

I thought this puzzle category was changing to a permanent but Sssimilar name?!?

It needs to be year-round.

In that case, I think Peter @Abide is accepting metas from new creators! 🙂👍🏻

SSSolved!

Fun!

And yes, let’s keep up the conversation about what’s classic or not. I for one feel that “Ishtar” is an unfairly maligned near-masterpiece. (Well, mostly. There’s a draggy part near the end.)

The first sentence of the intro ("classic. .. music") had me expecting Mozart. Oh well, I understand that this other guy is supposed to be pretty good too.

Midday nudges for any that might want them:

40A suggests an approach that one often sees in these sorts of puzzles

Those asterisks are obviously important, but why might two different symbols be used?

These clues have been vetted by copy editor extraordinaire @Wendy Walker, and yet the clue for 36D seems to contain an incorrect capital letter. What might that be about?

The title implies that both the left and right sides are important, but it also might be something you'd associate with one of the words of the answer

If you don't know the song, try googling the two words (and then listen to the song )
