Will Shortz Recovering From Stroke

Though very much a polarizing figure in the industry, very few people have had as much influence as NYT Crossword Editor Will Shortz, who has held that position at the Times since replacing Eugene Maleska in 1993. Therein, to some, lies a chief complaint about the tenure of Mr. Shortz; many allow him deserved credit for advancing the Modern Age of crosswords, but - 30 years later - there a fair number of people who believe that his long residency has stunted the continued growth of the cruciverbal arts.

All of that is fair game for a completely different thread - the purpose of this one is to pass along the news that National Public Radio has reported that Will Shortz suffered a stroke on February 4, and provided a recorded statement, by Shortz, saying that he has been in rehab, and is hoping to return to NYT and NPR'S Sunday Puzzle "soon"

Very best wishes for a speedy recovery.
