"A Series of Unfortunate Events"

Dear all,
I'm really honored to join this group and grateful to Brian for inviting me to share a puzzle! I've been doing crosswords since high school, got hooked on metas through MGWCC, and started constructing some puzzles of my own about two years ago. Some of you may remember my airports-themed MGWCC debut back in September, which was a great learning experience even though it didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped. In real life, I'm a mathematician in Durham, NC, studying topology.
This is a meta I wrote back in the spring, when I was stuck at home all the time. Come to think of it, I'm still stuck at home all the time! It's called "A Series of Unfortunate Events," and the meta answer is an author (who, as a totally unnecessary hint, is definitely not Lemony Snicket / Daniel Handler). For bonus points, name a work by that author connected to the puzzle's theme. I hope you enjoy it! You can find the puzzle (in PDF, PUZ, and PuzzleMe formats) on my recently-refurbished website:
https://knottygrids.blogspot.com/2020/0 ... vents.html
Good luck, and feel free to message me if you need a hint!
Adam
