The answer is a kind of statistic.

I’m out of the box. Very nice puzzle.

I took the gmail advice and solved with a cup of coffee on back porch. 65 degree weather and Riz Ortolani Radio on Pandora. Awaiting confirmation....

Cappuccino is only half consumed, so time to savor the solve and the rest of the cup.

🦖🚂🗳

I was up until 2AM prepping an online class that begins tomorrow. The delay was due to the online textbook I wrote being deleted and having to wait three weeks for it to get restored. Does it count as relaxation if the puzzle is covered by chapter 28 of the textbook? 🥴

If this is a 1/10 - this will be the last of these I try. Grid was tough and I have no clue on the meta.

It’s a 1/10 if you happen to know what you need to know.

Ok - Duh. Probably helps to do one key thing before trying to solve! I would say what I failed to do but it might be a spoiler but I'll say this - I did it online and one thing isn't staring at your face when you do it that way - once I went back and looked at it I had it in under a minute.

Took me awhile. Sometimes you just don’t see it for some time.

I'm done.
Almost lost in translation - the little statistics I know I learned in Hebrew - but I (google) figured it out.
Nice puzzle!

Dino me!

I think I’m like a few others here in that I stared at the grid for a good while before suddenly ...

Well, I’ll stop there so as not to give anything away.

Fun!

Well, I had 66.67% right. I would call it a pretty solid "pageant" answer.

Nice confidence builder, no complicated twists, but a novel mechanism (to me). Though I did surmise the answer first and then everything fell into place...well almost, I had to find my error in one of the theme answers.

But when I see that it's a 1/10 on the difficulty scale, I'm a bit less confident going forward. Especially as I'm still on the boat for this Friday's WSJ contest.

The difference in difficulty between this puzzle and this week's WSJCC is from what I can tell the classic debate about rating the difficulty of a puzzle. This puzzle should be very simple if you have the requisite specialized knowledge whereas the WSJCC requires no special knowledge other than that would come from doing lots of meta/theme puzzles. Usually with the "specialized knowledge" puzzle an effective google search can help you out whereas with the WSJCC - google isn't going to help but trying prior techniques might.
