So, what did you all think of this?

(Someone want to explain it to me? Right now it's falling into the "If you want me to grub around in the mud you got to convince my there's a potato in there" category for me.)
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

There are several across rows where three entries combine to answer a clue that is formed by combining the three clues for those entries. For example, the clues for 1, 5, and 10 across combine to make "Shops peddling collectibles". The answer to that is ANTIQUESTORES, which becomes ANTI, QUEST, and ORES, as the 1, 5, and 10 across entries.
