Easy breezy week 1. #5 on the board at 12:03 (my admiration to those who submit before completing the grid, I'm just not wired that way).

This dude, @Abide
Also, liking the playful cluing on this one! I think you can maybe do that a bit more on Week 1 (I do it on every week, so too bad.)
May you all have illumi-nation in finding the country!

Got it, but got a funny response from Matt’s site about entries being closed. Then a minute later I check the board and there I am. I’ll take it.

Beamed!
Also got the strange message about submissions being closed. I’ll check later to see if I’m on the board, and will resubmit if needed.

Beamed up!
Submitted before finishing the grid. (Something I never do.)
The answer is a nation that I am going to visit, albeit very briefly, twice this month! (Can't imagine that's a spoiler. But if anyone feels it is, let me know.)

I'm feeling like Ferris Bueller today, as I am Love Missile F-111 on the board. I also understand how someone got it in under a minute.
Oh, and since I was at his website already, I read the needfully long Mikey G write-up of last week's, and now I finally understand what was going on there.
Shoot it up!

Speaking for us luddites, I do not do the crossword on 56A, I use something weird called paper. And pen. And highlighters.

Putting those streaks on the line:
So @docison (12:03) completed the grid in one minute?
I didn't get the email until :02, and I did solve about 1/4 of the grid.

The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

Awaiting beam-up and the start of a new streak!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Awaiting beam-up myself.
And @Bob cruise director - while I most often use 56A, I used to find particular joy in picking up the in-flight magazine and solving with pen and paper (if someone hadn't butchered it before I got there). Now it seems they've done away with those. Fortunately, for my last flight, I had already downloaded the MGWCC and so was able to work offline.
