Solved thanks to the Zoom. I don’t know that I’d have gotten there by myself so I won’t be submitting but appreciate having that out of my head for the weekend!

Angel’s Envy for me this evening. Thanks, team. 🥃

Cynthia suggested that today's wonderful Zoom Session deserves a celebration. I think we'll have some Unique Extra Dark Splits pretzels with some Port Wine Cheese, and, of course, a Smithwick's Red Ale, cellar temperature as they serve it in the UK.

Cheers, everyone!

Usually after I've spent this much time looking at the WSJ Contest puzzle, I've pretty much thrown in the towel. But this is my lucky week, my perseverance paid off, and I can safely say that I am on the beach! Nice puzzle!

On dry land with a nudge but not taking any credit for this one. Was not even close and never would have gotten there. Very clever puzzle!
Always happy to provide a nudge if I’m ashore.

A deviation from this week's meta. There are a lot of movies that show up in crosswords so here is a musical movie quiz. And we have a large number of muggle music experts. 20 years ago, John Williams did a salute to the film composers when he conducted the 2002 Academy Awards. There are 22 movie themes in quick succession in the youtube link below. Before the movie titles show up, how many of the theme songs can you identify. I am not a movie buff but got 14.

Am I allowed to recommend an unrelated puzzle? Once you are solved and submitted, the puzzle in the link below is really something— there are two identical grids with one set of clues, and the answers are all different. It is like a crossword multiverse. (I have no affiliation with this puzzle— just thought this community would appreciate it!)

Ashore. Findable. Kept picking it up from lunch through evening baseball. Scour.. throw idea at the wall.. repeat!

ADDED: The more that I reflect, the more that I applaud Shenk's sharpness. I feel that he artfully nudged away from some wrong paths that could have taken even more time than they did.

Got the grid early on but not the solution. Still hard at work on it. But I wouldn’t do these puzzles if I didn’t enjoy them.
I shall push on! 👍

Exactly.

Same boat. Hope to be ashore by Sunday night.

Some grandkids are here so it might not happen...

Cheers!

A concentrated effort before going to bed and - yes! - landing on shore. Great puzzle - challenging but solvable.
