We have one more solver to welcome before the reveal: Rufus T Firefly. Thanks to all who solved and your kind comments about the puzzle. And now for the reveal!
As the reveal gif shows, the hint CLUE in the grid indicates where to look once you've identified the theme answers, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, and FIVE. If you apply the theme answer to its clue In Sequence, you get the letters O R D E R, something you might or might not follow.
Finding the sequence was one path, and the another way to solve would be to recognize that the first parts of each clue could go with the the word ORDER
Out of order
Pre-order
Side order
Telephone order
Natural order
Thanks again for solving
