Well.... that was weird.

Not a bloody clue, and not a bloody idea how there can be a clue. Of course, I know the names of more vegetarian New Zealand glass-blowers than I do American athletes who have won many medals at the Summer Olympics.

Solved / beamed.

YMMV but seems more like a week 3 if you’re not paying attention. (I was not paying attention. 🤣)

Okay. Got this by spying in on a Discord. (Well, I got the mechanism... not the answer)

That anyone would rate this as anything less than a week 5 is utterly astonishing to me.

Awaiting beam. Yeah .. several required googling for me, but one of them was what came to mind immediately from the clue. (Hope that’s vague enough not to be a spoiler .). Spent a good bit of time scratching my head in “almost-got-it, but huh??” land, then SMH.

Took a bit of looking but I'm on the board! Fun when I figured it out. Solid week two.

Got it. More than a little tricky. But very Gaffneyesque.

Awaiting the beam... [Tricky one, but my daughter helped!]

... and I'm beamed at #111. :D

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

I think if I had gotten any of them I would have gotten the entire puzzle (and indeed that's what I stole from discord... exactly one of them). But they were all either way too obscure or way too subtly hidden.

I'd never have gotten any in a million years. If it weren't for my streak I wouldn't have submitted at all.

Is this athlete super well-known?? Because I found the thing, but can't make it work.

Several seem to agree it is! I'd say more 2.5 or so. (Of course, I thought some of mine that initially ended up being Level 7s were Level 3s, so who knows, haha.)

I’m not seeing it and I don’t have much time this weekend to puzzle over it. Would some kind muggle send me a nudge in DMs?

Would somebody be willing to give me a little nudge in the right direction? I've been staring at the filled-in grid for a day now.

Edit: Got helped. Great puzzle!

Beamed. Phew, we were all over the place on this one until we finally put it together correctly.
