It would appear, from the comments, that I am making this much harder than I should. Time to set it down and have a beverage then maybe look again.

On the shore with a nudge.

Many times the nudge is to get you focused on the right thing and not the 100 or so wrong things. What is amazing is how the Page 1'ers can narrow down the options so quickly

Oh, thank goodness. I misread this the first time and thought you were setting your beverage down!

20a also makes no sense to me in relation to the clue, but the downs seem clear so... *shrug*
Needed the wife for that one. But, yeah, it was all good.
Yes, I felt like I was in pyrolysis for a while. And we all know how painful that can be.

Missed the zoom today, but I think I solved it last night. I had lots of "fun" ideas for four letter words, especially since last week's answer was "R-Rated." I'll keep those to myself, but I bet a number of you were thinking the same thing ;-)

As fate would have it, I'm travelling to Philadelphia next week on business. I might have to stop by the art museum and see some works by that "famous" artist who was the answer to a meta this year. Unfortunately I can't remember his name, just that the picture had something to do with a staircase and #2.

Have a great Memorial Day weekend everyone.

Anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new granddaughter. Didn't think I'd find time to look at the puzzle this week. Then I saw the guest setter and didn't think I'd have enough time to devote to it to work it through.

Believe it or not, I had it solved before I completed the grid! That rarely happens to me.

She'll get the mug this week if lightning strikes. 😁

We'll save the celebratory drink for when the baby comes...

Newbie (but a lurker) here at sea for the second week in a row. Couldn't make the Zoom, and I wouldn't mind a nudge. 😅

Edit: made it ashore, I think! Thanks for the nudges!

Well thanks to @jimbo1 I went back and did something I had tried earlier in a different way and this time I saw what I needed to. Won't submit but now I can stop obsessing about being left up in the air.

Nicely done of course, Patrick Berry is a fun constructor. I wish I had persevered but there was a chance I would not have seen this anyway.

Count me ashore but not entering the raffle.

FWIW I've been doing chemistry since 1987 and I've only ever seen this word in crosswords.
