I will sit on the couch and ruminate. Or ruinate.
That's not an anagram, right?

No, I meant to type "ruminate" in the first sentence, but I initially typo'ed it as "ruinate" instead. I decided to leave it as an afterthought.

But yikes, now I see what you were getting at. I just typed an anagram for "ruminate" into a search engine and came back with a bunch of hits to the Urban Dictionary... and Parks and Recreation, which I never watched. No, no, definitely rumination going on here and not the anagram.

Off the couch! A nice clean puzzle, Jay, as per usual. 47A was new to me.

Finished the grid (tough for me!), but don't yet have the meta. I do know this - - Bird Lives matter . . . .

Thanks Jay! Off the couch. My 2nd solve in my nascent meta solving career, it all came together at 4 a.m. lying in the dark, so I had to get up and confirm my thinking. Fun!

Not confirmed yet, but 100% sure Iā€™m off the couch.
Now for a trip to the garden to find a comfy seat

Had an epiphany during my drive to FL (only made it to Fredericksburg - - anyone been to the Bowman distillery here? Some wicked bourbon!). Anyway, (un)officially off the couch but quite confident. Great one Jay!

And now for the nudges, arranged in increasing order of nudginess:
One of the words in the title is a homophone,

The key words can all be expanded.

They can be expanded in the same way.

I left some similarly expandable words on the cutting-room floor (they were expandable and expendable). Two of them are HARP and CART.

Three others: MAR, LAG, MONS. (Please note: MAR and LAG were omitted for reasons that are entirely related to crossword construction and have nothing to do with a certain golfing venue and persons associated with it.)

Might the expanded grid-words be matched to six of the clues, i.e., clues that are doing double duty?

Fair but hard!

I got it but won't be submitting. I just didn't see it. In hind sight I really should have gotten the title. Even the first nudge is tricky It's not the word one would think that is the relevant homophone

That is, I figured out how to Profit! off of the underpants I collected.
