Submitted but not sure if I’m OTC.
Off to a nice hot cuppa!
P.S. Loved my math classes. Still take out the Great Courses on math CDs by Arthur Benjamin from the local library.

UPDATE
Deleted private message on my answer. Can’t be right. Will continue on.

I recognize that name! ^^
He taught/teaches? where my son went to school out in CA. I don't think my son ever took one of his classes though.

BTW, too nerdy to say that I LOVED Algebra?! After 8th grade algebra I was convinced that I would be a math major in college. Then I took Calculus my first semester - - got an A, but it was Waaaayyyy too hard for me. My 54 (out of 100) was an A on the final (curved of course). People were crying coming out of the exam. . . .
I loved math: algebra, geometry, trig, calc,... until multivariable calc which was incomprehensible to me.

Also I am still on the couch. Everything I try which I'm sure is the mechanism has resulted in ... multivariable calculus.

Off the couch.
Pain will be confirmed once winter hits for real.
Thanks Steve!

You're overthinking it. It's not multivariable calculus - not by a long shot.

I just meant I get incomprehensible gibberish for all my attempts.

Confirmed off the couch. I knew the answer less than halfway through the grid, but I'm glad I continued. Come for the meta; stay for the clues.

I have made students cry. I'm not proud of that.

What Jay said⬆️

Fantastic fun with the clues- great meta idea.
And she’s off the couch!! Coming around the last turn in the garden path to find a comfy seat … it’s a photo finish!

Same seat as last week but more inviting in May.

I am off the couch. I had two plausible answers. Steve told me that one of them was correct. I was able to winnow that down to the correct answer with one guess.

Got it! Very clever.
Tho I've lived in winter-free Florida for many years, I spent 18 years in upstate NY (real upstate - Syracuse) so greatly identify with the subject matter.
