On shore after briefly trying to make it more complicated than it is.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

Don't want to seem like a grouch but what is with these overly trivial and obvious puzzles this year? I thought last week was the easiest I had ever done but this one was even easier.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

On shore - and it's warm here for a change, so something cool from the bar would be nice; surprise me!

And congratulations to Al Sisti on being the Grand Marshall of the Utica New York (AEIOUY) St. Patrick's Day Parade.

And he is not just a pretty face. Here is the writeup in the Utica paper. A very well deserved honor

Alex Sisti, described as a key figure in the opening of the Irish Cultural Center of the Mohawk Valley, was announced as the parade's next grand marshal Saturday.
...
Besides his work with the Irish Cultural Center, Sisti also served as a committee member of the Great American Irish Festival from its inception, even chairing trash-pickup.
"Al, through his efforts, has given back to our area in many ways, especially for our Irish community,"former Grand Marshal Patrick Costello said in the announcement. "In fact, it would be hard to think of any Irish initiative in the past 20 years that Al did not have a role in."
...
Grand Marshal of the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Key figure in the opening of the Irish Cultural Center. Long time contributor to the local Irish community.

AND he likes Guinness? What a surprise...

Wait.... is the answer a 10 letter word or a major World City? If it's major world City that changes everything.

On shore ... and awestruck to sip in the shadow of Al Sisti. What a wonderful honor for an equally delightful soul.

On shore. I enjoyed it.

Patrick Berry's WSJ puzzles are never that hard. At least it was more difficult that last week's. As I was filling out the grid I had a pretty good idea where it was going, but didn't know for sure until I actually started on the meta.

On shore. Yippee! Page 2. I'll take it. At least I got a page 1 comment in!

Have a terrific weekend, Muggles.

On the beach! Good luck everybody!
Clue is a ten-letter word.
