A very creative puzzle by Jay. Lots of fun with some excellent clues. I think the difficulty level may be somewhat exaggerated, I think it is a 1.5.

It brought me much Joyce, gotta say.
So clever and fine
I wish it were mine

Nice one! Happy early St Pat's! I'm probably around 1/8 Irish but I never have anything green to wear.

Thanks, that was fun! I'm off the couch.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

What a blast and love being able to confirm on Crosshare! Finally we got to work together in person as a team on a crossword...so extra special. A lovely way to spend time together. Thanks so much for the puzzle!

So, whose first thought when seeing the title of this puzzle was: Watch the swears, Honey Bear. We don't use the I-word in this household.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Day 1 of St. Patrick's Week brought out 45 solvers, many with kind words. Keep those cards and letters coming, folks. (I think the list below has everyone. but if I've left you out, let me know.)
. .
There were also a couple of great suggestions for theme entries I might have used ifonly I'd been clever enough to think of them and find a place for them in the grid. Maybe next year.

I should have thought my comment through before submitting it. My apologies if I ruined anyone's fun. I couldn't resist the old joke because it fit my situation so well.

Sprang off the couch this morning. Delightful grid and masterful meta, Jay!
Being originally from Baltimore, I particularly enjoyed 68A.

Inspiration hit as I was settling down for the night last night. So I guess you could say I was off the couch and straight into bed. Cool puzzle, Jay!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta! ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif)
