Other than submitting to the wsj contest email, is there somewhere on this forum we can submit our answer?

Not until after the contest on a public forum.
To win, you must submit to WSJ via their online form or email to crosswordcontest@wsj.com.

How do people confirm they have the correct answer? I’ve only submitted to wsj email for previous puzzles.Joe Ross wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:27 pmNot until after the contest on a public forum.

We post the answer here, in this topic, immediately after the deadline.jbird wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2023 5:32 pmHow do people confirm they have the correct answer? The Wall Street Journal also publishes the answer on the PDF of the Monday crossword (Tuesday's, if Monday is a holiday).
You can verify your answer before the deadline by sending a PM to muggles who have solved & declared themselves ashore

Finally found the path to shore! This one was very clever and worth sticking with it.

Ashore, finally, after giving up on the obvious red herring. Bourbon, please.

No one is absolutely sure they have the right answer until the WSJ publishes it on Sunday night.
But after doing these a while, you get a sense when you've got the right answer. And some weeks, like this one, well, OK, I can't say for sure, buy I'm 99.999% confident that my answer is correct.
With puzzles where I'm uncertain (and don't want to just wait for the official answer) chatting with other solvers privately and seeing that they got the same answer I did gives me more confidence.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.
(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)

What obvious red herring?
Oh well, back to pounding my head on the wall.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Ashore! Glad to be back after long hiatus. My visiting friend saw the mechanism pretty quickly! Ergcat and I were very impressed!

I'm finally ashore, with assists from 2 other muggles.
