Sigh.... another speed through the grid to hit a WTH????? moment..... Those are happening too frequently lately.
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Ashore. It’s harder when you misread a quote for an asterisk and try to fit a sixth clue into the themer (particularly in Spanish).

Just now getting to the puzzle--only page 3 is not a good omen for me solving! Hoping to fit some puzzle time into my to-do list. Said list has way too many items on it for me to finish up by Saturday morning and a departure to the shores of Lake Michigan/Door County with four dear college friends. Could have used an easier puzzle.

Not a clue so far, but haven't been able to give it full attention either. Firmly on the ship for now...

I'm on shore. Meta experience was useful for this one.

I hope Al enjoyed the shout-out at 11D!

Oh, and about that pesky Oxford comma: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/15/worl ... gency.html

93 mph slider, instead. If you see it coming out of the pitcher's hand, it's hittable.

Count me on the ship. Travel day today, so won't have much time to think on this one until tonight (and I'll also have MGWCC to solve).

Ashore - realized the path as I was going to sleep last night and completed it this morning. If you are struggling, stick with it - you can do it!

Here is the Friday morning report for this clever and fun puzzle! (Clever and fun if you have solved it, of course.)

Making it to Muggle Beach are Abide, Benchen71, Berto, Beth A, Beth Tyrpin, BigPear, Boharr, Cheekumbaldy, Chris Kochmanski, Cindy, Clonefitz, Darth, Docison, GD Short, Harbo, HC Birker, Jace54, Jacksull, Jimmy D, Joe Pickett, Joe Ross, Kay W, Laura M, LesY, M and M, MarkHR, Mark Woychick, MBryant, Meg, MHeberlingx100, Michael M, Miki, NebFaninCA, Old Judge, QMark, Steve B, stmv, Team Double Tow, Toby, Tom Wilson, and Wendy Walker. I want a video of Jace54 solving while walking home from the bus stop! I'm imagining one of those old commercials where somebody leaps up in the air and clicks their heels together upon discovering that a cigarette has been invented that is both flavorful and low in carcinogens!

On the ship with Isaac are DavyGravy, DPlass, Kawaja, Ky-Mike, LadyBird, Matty the WSJ Puzzler, MiniMuggle, PJC, Scott M (who has created a brilliant new Muggle statistic, the “Time to Complete Page One” [mandatory acronym: TTCP1]), and Woozy.

As usual there will be a 4:30 p.m. (Philadelphia time) Group Solve via Zoom this afternoon. I have an excused absence -- my nephew, a Villanova sophomore, is running a cross-country race!

I spotted this praying mantis having a snack on a foxglove in the backyard.

On shore! Wow, page 3 is a real improvement for me! Is it too early in the day for a Guiness?
