I made it ashore. The grid was harder than the meta!

Ashore. Submitted an answer that was unknown to me (but the metanism works). I guess it's just my ignorance.

On shore. My partner guessed the answer before we even started the grid! Cute one.

Getting caught up on the second season of "All Creatures Great and Small". Best line by younger brother Tristan: I prefer when Siegfried doesn't give me anything to do; more time to finish the crossword.

Ok, just one:

How am I doing? you may say.
Landed in the ER and had a hospital stay.
Had the vaccine and it was three weeks to the day.
Fortunately everything was OK.

Low blood oxygen, shortness of breath.
No I was not taking meth.
In the interest of preventing death.
Figured I should get some tests.

Called EMS figuring it would do the trick.
They showed up, two gents, right quick.
They said yes I was quite sick.
Into the ambulance the door went click.

Not having a significant other.
I was lucky to have my brother.
I didn’t even tell my mother.
Really worried was my father.

Get to the ER, a beautiful place.
State of the art, smiling face.
Timing was right, I had grace.
Tests were done at a rapid pace.

But oxygen levels weren’t too high.
A bit more care was needed by and by.
Another ride to
A dee-luxe hospital on Park Avenue.

Teams of physicians came to say hi.
Set the oxygen levels on high.
Decided to keep me by and by.
I said thank you, give it a try.

Fortunately I soon got well.
Three days later breath was clear as a bell.
Insurance covered it, no hard sell.
Even though they did tests pell-mell.

Lesson learned? Don’t hesitate.
If you’re sick just do not wait.
Medicine these days is great.
Hope it’s also true in your state.

So, I'll be among the first 100 ashore! I've decided not be become a slave to this Thursday at 4:00 routine! I was at the movies this afternoon! A wonderful double feature it was: "The French Dispatch" and "Parallel Mothers." I couldn't have asked for a more entertaining day. And I'm glad to have the weekend ahead of me for an 11-letter(-or-less) activity!

Had to put it down and come back to it. I enjoyed this one a lot! On the beach.
Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

No...

The wife came home for lunch and said "Let's play the bird game" and when the wife says "Let's play the bird game" we play the bird game. (At least, not unless I can say "I'm just two minutes from solving this puzzle...." which... as it turns out I could have said but at the time I didn't know I could say it.)
Is that Wingspan? I bought the PC version around New Year's but haven't tried it out yet....
I thought it might be a euphemism for something else...

Still at sea. Got the first and second part of mechanism then a brick wall (or undertow). Matt's clue has me thrown for a loop.

Update: Ashore. Last puzzle in dry January! Not sure why I got confused with final step. Fun!

On shore, for the statistics: I have an answer I will submit, after letting it stew a bit. This is, after all, Matt Gaffney, with whom, at least for me, certainty is elusive. No beach here (California rainfall being back to normal -- i.e. none) but a nice bottle of wine to take its place.

Whoa! I've missed your posts and poetry. But that's an acceptable excuse for your absence:)

Really glad you're OK now! Yup, modern medicine can be amazing.
If you want help with a meta, feel free to PM me. The more specific you are about what you have and what you want, the more likely I can help without spoiling.

(And if I help you win a mug, I’ll be especially delighted.)
