Ashore.

I don’t know whether I’m happy or sad when I solve on the first pass.

Ashore. Almost overthought another one. Hopefully WSJ fixes the webpage so I can submit.

Actually, if I find a ten letter world AND a major world city, then I surely deserve a two-handled mug.

The WSJ webpage for the puzzle now does say "Hint: The answer to this week’s contest crossword is a ten-letter word. See the complete guide to the crossword contest here." Better late than never....

I bought a new phone today. Cracked up the old one a bit last night on the way home after a bender! I was transferring data at post time this afternoon. But I'm on shore with the crowd now!

Grid: just under 10 minutes
Answer: approx 90 seconds

I'll also have a Guinness if the tiki bar isn't out yet.

Ashore! I picked up the puzzle a little over an hour late, did it, and then solved the meta while waiting for a cup of tea to finish brewing. So I guess I’ll drink the tea now and have a Guinness later (if the swelling crowd leaves me one).

When I first tried to log on here, the site was down. All those people, trooping in, dripping salt water everywhere, must have shorted something out.

Whoa, I made it the bar on Thursday for the first time.... I guess I'll have to take a vacation day tomorrow and make it a long weekend.

One of the vary rare ones where I'm standing on the shore before I've completed the puzzle.
