I got the puz file at Fleeting Image (https://www.fleetingimage.com/wij/xyzzy/22-wsj.html). I didn't look for the puzzle till 5:15, so I don't know how soon it was posted there.

Not quite certain which shore I'm on. I'm considering an alternate answer, but that's probably just because I need the exercise.

On shore.

It took me longer than it should have for the AHA moment even though I have done this type of race.

I think we may get a few wrong answers for a different kind of race that I haven't done.

Meanwhile I am curious where you're getting the puzzles you posted here?

Lol! I think Mike from WSJ is asking how users here have access to the puzzle before it was made available on the WSJ site. I was wondering this too but assumed it was an open secret. Now it appears it may not be intended to be so open.
Yes! Thank you. We would love to know where it's hidden...

This is where I always get the grid. It usually appears a few minutes past 4, so if you are set on making page 1, it may not be for you:

Edit to add: I hope I'm not in trouble with MikeM!!

Happy to give nudges. If you notice I've solved, please tell me about avenues you've explored so I can nudge you in the right direction and not off a cliff.

Thanks for posting. Solved the puzzle and meta but can’t submit… usual do these on my phone. Thanks to those who posted links. WSJ seems to have more bugs than anyone else, no?

On shore…. First time doing it on my phone 🙃
If I don't win a mug, I can always make one... ;) but it won't have the same cachet.

Perhaps the WSJ had the same trouble Ticketmaster had with Taylor Swift?

We don't know if we got the foot race or not - but did submit an answer. We're on some sort of beach, though! (which is really nice compared to the 2-6 inches here in Colorado!

[Matt, thinking to himself] "Can I do this?"

Yup
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

On the beach. Had something akin to an AHA moment.
Not my favorite footrace, but we "Just Do It".
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
