Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? A weekly meta crossword constructed by forum member Ben (aka benchen71). These metas range from relatively easy to more challenging, depending on how many Australianisms he puts in them! Puzzles are posted in a new thread every Tuesday, with nudges appearing on Saturdays, and the solution coming out on Mondays. (At least, that's the plan. Given he lives in Australia, and they are so far ahead of the US time-zone-wise, things may get posted early!)

Totally the Real and Not Fake Benchen71's Metas on a Tuesday (MOAT)


Put down your chooks and Vegemites and prepare for some hard yakka!
You gotta storm a castle over in Woop Woop that's deadset choc a bloc with crocks - bloody oath!

To be fair this moat is more of a wee billabong, so I expect you'll be having a cold one with the King in no time.

The answer to this MOAT is a song with a super cool music video.

I believe that Ben and Josh are one and the same. BEN and JOSH have no common letters, an obvious clue. JOSH ends in SH meaning that he wants this kept quiet. Benjamin and Joshua also have biblical links:

“From after the conquest of the promised land by Joshua until the formation of the first Kingdom of Israel, the Tribe of Benjamin was a part of a loose confederation of Israelite tribes.”

Finally, have you ever seen Josh and Ben in the same room at the same time. I know I haven’t. I rest my case!

You have probably noticed by now that this week's MOAT is not one of mine! My thanks to Josh for this puzzle, and for the idea of doing a forum swap this week. I have something special coming your way as this week's MEOW, so stay tuned...

I have to say that this puzzle has me stumped, even after having had the answer revealed in a PM. I'm going to have to do some serious thinking with this one!

A Kangaroo is a funny thing
He hops around like an old bed-spring
The color of his skins too pale
He'd look better with stripes on his tail
A Kangaroo has a Kangaroo face
On which two eyes look so out of place
He is the funniest creature in the zoo
'cause he looks so much like a Kangaroo
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.

My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".
