13. Gone for Christmas

#1

PDF and PUZ

Meta fans of the universe, unite! A pretty easy one this time around (again, the meta, not the crossword!); I think this should rank 1 out of 5. I sometimes have a hard time making up hard metas, but I have a non-meta toughie in the works I'm excited for you to see (stay tuned for that).

We have a bonus in this one too! Figure it out for bonus destiny points. Or something. (The bonus is something to notice separate from but connected with the meta.)

---

The answer to the meta is a multi-word Christmas song.

Deadline: December 10 at 11 pm Eastern

---

Leaderboard of Destiny (bolded = bonus, italics = close!!)

The bonus is not just that the puzzle is a pangram!

(Not sure how this board exploded so quickly, but we might have a record on our hands...I think that's 25 for me? One more for two winners in the drawing!!)

Did the puzzle and proceeded to louse up my submission so may be a while before I reach my destiny.
Like Santa on his sleigh ride, the journey was as much fun as the delivery! :P

Solved and submitted. No idea about the bonus though!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

A clue in the NYTimes mini crossword puzzle for 11/29:

"The peculiar term for the cardboard sleeve around a coffee cup."

If you didn't know that, you're between a zarf and a hard place.

Solved and submitted. I saw one peculiarity prior to submission and then noticed another after submission. We will see if what I submitted was what was intended for us to notice.

1. Sent Answer and Bonus by email yesterday morning but no response. Will use PM.

2. Scrapped meta I was currently working on. (same answer and bonus)

Sorry, Abide!

The answer, as many of you have gotten, is The First Noel, not necessarily my favorite carol - but one that lends to a pretty straightforward meta.

Note that, per the bonus, I did need a second "L" in each theme entry (otherwise, "First" in the title is not as applicable and I was kind of picky on that). The bonus is that there are, as far as I'm aware, NO other unnecessary "L"s (I couldn't call it the Eaderboard of Destiny!) in:
  • The answers to the puzzle
  • The clues to the puzzle
  • The blog post to the puzzle
  • The first entry in this forum
Again, some "L"s necessary for the clues (i.e. "multi-word") slipped in. I have a bonus meta planned for soon after this wild string of work I'm caught up in - along with 2 winners for this one! Check out my wild crostic challenge if you haven't already here.

Thanks for your muggleness!

I'm being a little Grinchy, since I had a spare meta, but I think I'll just shelf it for next year's December one, bahaha. Thanks to so many of you who have tackled the crostic as well - I want to be a man of my word and actually type up the solution guide for it this year!

This meta's two winners by random draw were @RPardoe and @DrTom - congrats!

A very merry Christmas and happy holidays to you all!
