#719 - “Something’s Brewing”
MGWCC #719 — Friday, March 11th, 2022 — “Something’s Brewing”
Dear Solver,
505 of you found the answer to last week's challenge. Read about it here:
Today's puzzle is Week 2 of 4 in March, but it's actually Week 1 difficulty level since last Friday's puzzle was more of a Week 2. Next Friday we'll get back on track with a Week 3.
THIS WEEK’S INSTRUCTIONS:
This week’s contest answer is a brand of beer.
There will NOT be a spreadsheet link PMed for this week.

On the board at 52. I'll take it but will probably celebrate with a different beer later.

My favorite beer is root.
I know for me if it's a Level 1 puzzle and the meta is pretty doable, it's easy to brush it aside, but this was still another fun construction!

Beamed up, earliest finish ever. Now back to the WSJ puzzle - 80% solved quickly but now have to figure out where I’ve gone wrong
Contest Crosswords Combating Cancer (CCCC) is a bundle of 16 contest-style (meta) crosswords that we've created to help raise money for cancer-related organizations - get the bundle at http://crosswordsforcancer.com

Now THAT was a week 1! (Or 1/2).
EDIT: Oh, didn't read the letter he sent. FWIW I had no complaint about last week-- just an observation that is wasn't a week 1 (I thought it was a 3 but it could be argued to be a 2). And I have no complaint about this week-- just an observation it *is* a week 1.... but now I see it was intentional.
Late start and easy puzzle results in an astonishing #165.... I'll take comfort in that I like numbers that are highly divisible... and primes... but also numbers that are highly divisible.

So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".

Ready to beam up. Did grid during a call/meeting I actually had to participate in. Said, "Could you repeat that?" many times, for some strange reason. Glad it wasn't a video meeting.
Big grid. Easy meta. Not yet ready for a beer.
Edit: On the board at 166. (@#$% meeting! Gotta get rid of those...) Crowded transporter room, for sure, today.

I got a late start due to <life>, but solved it pretty instantly (by my standards) once I did get to it, and now it's nice to see my name on the leaderboard. Even the grid seemed easier than usual.
