I submitted an answer to Josh, but keeping my fingers crossed. One thing kept me from being 100% sure. I'll just have to wait and see if he confirms or if I need to go back to the drawing board!
Confirmed. The cat is out!

Gosh, ya know I'm 121 puzzles in and still completely incapable of guessing the difficulty level.

Does this mean nudges are on the way? It looked like it was going to be SUPER SIMPLE while I was filling in the grid but now I feel like I am working on two separate puzzles.madhatter5 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 4:58 pm Gosh, ya know I'm 121 puzzles in and still completely incapable of guessing the difficulty level.
My avatar proves that it is sometimes better to be lucky than good!

The cat is free after a friendly Muggle picked up the bag and dumped him out.

I’m among those still noodling the meta answer, but a mid-solve tip of the cap on the cluing and grid fill - exceptionally clever and a fun challenge it its own right. Wow!madhatter5 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 4:58 pm Gosh, ya know I'm 121 puzzles in and still completely incapable of guessing the difficulty level.

Thank you. We love him! His actual name is Buster which was after the first iPhone app I wrote. That turned into Butthole the Wonder Dog, then to Bootyhole McMuffins. I guess when you get into your 40s and 50s and don’t have kids things get a little NSFW.
Edit: it’s about to be his 12th birthday! Whatever you want to call him!

I'm with those whose catdog is still in the bag. I mean, I see the thing, and I see the other things, but I don't know what to do with them yet.

Cat is out, but Whimsy had to help me rip the bag a little. Lot of holes for me and a lot of second guessing, but kitty is now out and taking a bath.
NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

Submitted an answer, but fear I have a Schrodinger’s cat this week. Don’t know if he’s in or out of the bag, and contend he’s both. We’ll see…

There's another thing?
So I just plain couldn't get my meta based on "Up the Down Staircase" to work.
My challenge it to constructors is to make a meta where the meta, theme or metanism is "Up the Down Staircase".
