I am very honored to be a part of this wonderful effort coordinated by Will Pfadenhauer (aka @AnswerPfinder). Thank you for solving my meta and for donating to a cancer charity. Please feel free to PM me for a nudge.

I do love a Cap’n Rick (even more than a Captain Morgan). Smooth, well clued and just tricky enough to make you think without making you scream. Thanks Rick

I got the mechanism but had a few wrong answers that led me astray. Great meta @Cap'n Rick

I was deep in a rabbit hole because there are six of the grid answers which also have something in common but unfortunately they don't lead anywhere

It is on to @Bird Lives tomorrow.

Thanks Cap’n! (PS RIP Gordon Lightfoot, who chronicled the late Captain McSorley years ago.)

Unmistakably a Capn Rick -- theme and execution. But I'm surprised it wasn't saved for a different occasion.

Very enjoyable meta, Cap'n! I donated to National Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of my wife who is a breast cancer survivor. Due to the advances in knowledge pertaining to the best individualized treatment options made possible by prior donors, she is doing fine today. Thank you, Cap'n!

I've received a few nudge requests, so here you go. (Note: If you haven't yet solved, you might want to give this one a try this weekend. :D)

Hmm, it appears that 6 ships have sailed out of this puzzle (symmetrically, of course).

Before those ships sailed, they formed different words with 6 grid entries.

Those 6 different "ship" words matched 6 other clues.

The first letters of the answers to those other clues spell the meta answer, which can also be a type of "ship".

You could have saved a lot of time by just identifying the nursery rhyme character at 39-Across. :D

Ahhhh… needed - but shouldn’t have - that first nudge. This type of meta has perpetually been a blind spot for me, but great fun, Cap’n, elegant construction!
