I was told there were 39. Now the two songs of the meta may or may not be in this picture. But if they are I figure the large number prevents this from being a spoiler.

Is Ebony and Ivory a beatles song?

I didn't see Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds though I looked (unless you mean th figure I took to be "Her Majesty"). Oh! the people running into each other is "come together" that one puzzled me. Next to "I'm So Tired" is "I'm only sleeping" (not dead).

Also the "Back in the USSR" can double for "Revolution" (and is the control switch relevant)? I'm surprised there is not an Abbey on that Long and winding road. Does "she's leaving home" double as "she came in through the bathroom window". Someone claimed the dog could be "Hey, Bulldog" but... maybe.

The things I don't get: The girl standing on another's balloon. The guy with a bindlestiff (Is it a girl? Is she leaving home?) The duck, particularly the one with a bag on its head. And the VW bug "Drive my car"? And what's the deal with the picnic behind the Walrus.

Some you missed. The man with the stethoscope with the nametag: Bob; The woman carrying a baby all in dark clothing; The sign 24/8. The construction worker carrying a huge load on his back; Actually what are the construction workers doing (and where are they doing it)? The street lamp in the shape of a (botanical) bulb; the street busker whose instrument appears to be crying; The bee with a sign about a rental unit.

Hmm, the fair doesn't seem to have a roller coaster which is what I had always believed to be "Helter Skelter"

lol got the first one quickly, but was stuck on the second until someone pointed out that I had done enough work to see it. Which, indeed, I should have seen it much earlier. Excellent stuff, thanks!

No answers on the meta but I’ll throw out “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” for the fellow with the stringed instrument in the puzzle. 😁

Early morning Nudge #1

Look for common letter lengths in the themers, along with the first letters of the theme words

Ah. I had heard that but I guess it's one of those things where when you don't have personal experience you forget details and replace them and get convinced your made up details are part if it. Somehow I had gotten to the point that I was certain that Helter Skelter was a roller coaster. Apparently it is not.

I'm going with "Fixing a hole". If we're getting flexible (can the soviets on the merry go round imply "back in". Can going through the bathroom window double as "leaving home"? Is Her Majesty also Lucy van Pelt from Peanuts wearing Diamonds)-- if we are being flexible could it double as "why don't we do it in the road".

The guy in a yellow vest? What about the guy with a load of tools on his back? Boy, he's gonna carry that weight, carry that weight a long time.

Oh-ho-ho! Had the first song on Monday. Then just as I turned in last night after a full day of traveling back home, I realized the correct second song, thanks to a push from the Dude himself!
Excellent puzzle, Peter!
