Knocked this one out in a couple hours. Some really fun clues here. 22A made me laugh out loud.

Every month I find myself entering at least two words that I KNOW are correct, but do not know why. This month was not much different.

I think I have all the wordplays if you want the ones you missed.

Agree to disagree, Your Honor. True, Maltby will use more words than necessary in cluing. But I give him a pass on that since I just really enjoy solving his stuff. It’s a personal metric, obviously.

Then we don’t disagree—I like his puzzle concepts, they are a lot of fun, just not his clueing style.

Has REMJ been going easier on us? Or am I getting better at these?
Got to this one late. (We were traveling.) I started a bit slowly on it, but once I got some footholds, it rolled. Finished in an hour or an hour and a half. (Unsure because a neighbor stopped by, and I don’t know how long we gabbed.)
Myself, I’m good with REMJ’s clueing, but I can see where you might not be. I suppose the different clueing styles are one of the ways in which these are, for me, variety cryptics. As I recall, Frank Lewis in The Nation had a whole ‘nother clueing style, often really … cryptic.

I know what you mean, Chris. His puzzles do seem to yield more easily these days. I do believe a lot of that may have to do with familiarity with his style. When I first undertook the Harper’s puzzles, the first 45 minutes to an hour in I always had serious doubts that I would be able to finish. Now I only get that feeling about once every fourth grid.
