Tricky Treats
Hello Muggles!
It’s been a long time since we last talked, so this seems like a good time to catch you up on all I’ve been doing.
My work as a freelance APL coder has fallen off a bit – well, totally – although I’ve got a good feeling about this new “Telecommunications Specialist” job opening I applied for. I sent them a Telex with my resume, and I should be hearing from them any day now!
Even though I’m not working, I’ve been busier than ever. I camped out overnight to be the first one through the doors of Linux Habitation’s new Man Bun Museum… what a hoot! I plan to go back next week to finish seeing everything, and maybe pick up a refrigerator magnet in the gift shop.
What else? Oh yeah, how could I forget? I’m now an author! Well… not exactly published yet; my 300-page single spaced manuscript is still in the pipeline. Apparently, the reviewer thought my title “Infinite Loops, Spaghetti Code, Stuck-At-One and Other Bad Coding Practices In Industry Applications, Vol I (1962-1974)” was too long. Within minutes of my submission, I received a response with a new title, “Go To Hell!” Great title, and man, are they fast readers!
In the meantime, I’ve been busy trying to pull in some much-needed income… basement apartments don’t pay for themselves, you know (Thanks Mom!). I’m doing a podcast called “Exceptions to the “i-before-e” rule,” which airs three times a week – all of them from 10-3 on Mondays – which I’m hoping will offset some of my less-successful attempts: my “HELLO WORLD” plugin tanked, and apparently, it wasn’t a smart idea to invest in flea collar futures. Live and learn.
But at least someone in the house is doing well; Mom’s book “How To Get Rid Of Unwanted Pests In Your Basement” is selling like hotcakes. Where she found time to write a book in between trips downstairs to bring me sandwiches with the crusts cut off is beyond me… what a gal!
So yeah, I’ve been pretty busy… but never too busy for my Muggle friends! I’ve written a new meta that I hope you’ll enjoy… It’s called “Tricky Treats,” and I’m looking for a 9-letter answer. Stay Calm and Keep Coding!

OTC!... By strange coincidence, @Clark E. Tripe, I'm currently reading a book about pest control, and it says to put rat poison in peanut butter.
Yikes! Might need to double check your PB&Js! ... in any case, have a happy Halloween, if you partake of such festivities.

Off the couch... I think. Thanks for the puzzle, Tripe!
Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

Oops! Sorry about that, @Cindy. I'm still kinda new at this.
Should be all set now.

Clark!!! My Man!!!!!
What a treat to see you among us again- I hope nobody is trying to trick us by impersonating you.
Now when the fan club comes to camp on your Linux Habitation doorstep, we’ll know which window to peek in.
On to the grid to find that tricky treat you’ve brought us-
Love, Marge

Clark! Great to hear from you again! If you need help with the chapters on "Modifying your code on the fly with C-Terp" or "Debugging your C code in Microsoft C 5.1 with a second, monochrome monitor," I'm your man. I could probably contribute to the "Preprocessing Pre-standard C++ with Glockenspiel" chapter, too.

Hey, thanks for listening! And I see you obviously caught the August 30, 2021 episode... you'd be surprised at how many people thought it was spelled "Pinceled."

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

I've heard a rumor that Clark and Marie Kelly will be holding a Zoom special soon.
