The meta answer is PANCAKE(S).
Eight symmetrical across entries had food-related clues, and those were the only clues that mentioned food (hence the color-themed clue for CARAMELS and the armor-related clue for TUILLE). So now what? Well, guided by the title, we look for words that might go 'after' those eight entries. And indeed, DISH/FRYING/OIL/PETER can all be followed by PAN, while FRUIT/CUP/CHEESE/FISH can each be completed with CAKE. So the meta answer is PANCAKE (or PANCAKES).
The original version of this was a bit trickier, in that I went out of my way to *not* use food clues for the themers, and there were other food mentions elsewhere (including the CARAMELS and TUILLE clues). The prompt was also more vague. Thanks to @Abide for the advice to reorganize so that the food related clues served as more subtle asterisks, and for the more direct prompt.
Oh, and the inclusion of subSTACK, which seems to have been many people's entry into the puzzle was a total accident. As it turns out, trying to fit the themers into an 11x11 was pretty rough on my neophyte constructor skills, so pretty much the rest was just an exercise in 'can I get fill that's not (too) awful.' I actually spent a couple of minutes trying to get rid of the CARAMELS entry toward the end, but then gave up.
Anyway, as I said in the intro, not that much to it. But hope you enjoyed nonetheless. Thanks as usual for all the kind words.
