Last night I was lost at sea. The way to shore became clear by the morning light. I’ll just take a black coffee for now. Great puzzle Mr. Gaffney!

Quick start on this one but then got stuck and needed help. Final step made me laugh.

It's a rarity for me... grids are usually fast, but I frequently get NOWHERE with metas. Well, I guess I should amend that- Gaffney and I usually vibe. It's Shenk that always stumps me!

Very clever. Couple of misdirects to make it more interesting. We persevered and are on the beach.

Just got a look at this one this morning. Grid was straightforward but left me suspicious... A little misdirection, then I saw it. Then I stalled...
Then I pulled a thread that couldn't possibly be right...
AHA!
Another amazing construction, actually surprised I got it as quickly as I did...or even at all!
Great fun! Thanks Matt!!!

BTW, this is definitely a 100%-er. If you're not sure you have the correct answer, then you don't.

Ashore! I had step 1 correct, but it took awhile to land on the correct step 2.

My solving process:
"I didn't solve the last two weeks and I'm not interested in astrology or chess; if this week is about Star Trek, I'm going to take a break from this."
Get 83.3% of the answer on Thursday night but assume I'm pretty far off because it looks like nonsense.
Doodle wacky faces all over the printout, then recycle it.
Have a Friday morning realization that there might be an extra subtlety, pull paper out from under cat food cans, etc.
Show puzzle to Mrs. C=64 who has absolutely no interest.
Solve and have a good chuckle.

Finished the grid online. But have no means to print, which is a hindrance to a Luddite like myself. So still at sea, so to speak. Maybe inspiration after a martini.
But I do have an excellent view of the Ponte Vecchio, spanning the river well used in crosswords.

Saw the first bit right away, and then it took a bit for the lightbulb to come on for the rest. On shore!
