"Mr. E"
Welcome to the latest edition of Muggle Meta Mondays. This week we have a special treat for you - a meta crossword constructed by actual real-life crossword constructors! Forum member Peter Abide is an accomplished crossword constructor whose puzzles have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Sun and The Los Angeles Times. Professional crossword constructor Patrick Blindauer should be a name familiar to all regular solvers. He has published over 200 crossword puzzles in every major venue imaginable, including 67 puzzles in the New York Times alone. He is one of 10 puzzle makers featured in Will Shortzโs Favorite Puzzlemakers.
Together, Peter and Patrick offer up "Mr. E," a puzzle originally created in 2006, but slightly modified for this venue. The answer is a famous person. I will leave it to Peter to chime in as to whether he would like you to PM him your answers. The solution will be posted in this thread Sunday afternoon. Happy solving!

That was a challenging grid. Some of your clues were delightfully distracting. I guess Iโll PM Peter with my answer. Thanks for the fun.

Thank you Peter and Patrick. The grid was tough for me (but fair). I think I have the meta.

Thanks, I really enjoyed the grid! I'm pretty sure that I understand theoretically how to get the meta, but I don't think it's going to happen (unless I'm missing something, which is always possible!).
Update: Got it with computerized help (I didn't PM anyone but I'm fairly certain). I'd made an incorrect assumption and missed a joke :-)

As a side note, my dad worked for 47A for 30 years, and BP gave him a nice early retirement deal. I'm nearly the same age he was then, but I don't think I'll be able to retire anytime soon!

I believe I have the meta, it absolutely works, but some of the uncertainty here is making me wonder ...
I'll PM my solution to Brian. We'll see.
I especially enjoyed the clues and grid here.

Wait, I'll think more on this, before submitting. I may be missing something.

Have an answer... seemed pretty straight forward so thinking on it a bit before submitting it (as well as deciding to whom I should submit)
