"For That Special Someone" by benchen71

Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? A weekly meta crossword constructed by forum member Ben (aka benchen71). These metas range from relatively easy to more challenging, depending on how many Australianisms he puts in them! Puzzles are posted in a new thread every Tuesday, with nudges appearing on Saturdays, and the solution coming out on Mondays. (At least, that's the plan. Given he lives in Australia, and they are so far ahead of the US time-zone-wise, things may get posted early!)

Welcome to...

benchen71's Metas on a Tuesday (MOAT)

Can you storm the castle by getting across the MOAT? While this puzzle focuses on gifts for that special someone, let's not forget that there are many different love languages including words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch to name the well-known ones. The answer to the meta is four grid entries that need to be combined phonetically.

PM me with your submissions or submit on Crosshare. Either way, I'll compile a list of those who successfully solve the meta.

Check out "The MOAT MEOW Mashup Pack" here. US$10 for 14 metas that don't always abide by the "rules" of the game: asymmetry, 2-letter words, uncrossed letters, who knows. And this time there's a mega-meta!

To avoid confusion (especially if you are submitting on Crosshare), I've changed the meta prompt ever so slightly: "The answer to the meta is four grid entries that need to be combined phonetically"

The files linked in Post #1 have been revised and are correct.

I didn't see the change in the meta prompt, so it took me a few minutes to submit the correct answer. But I have stormed the castle!

Fun! Thanks, Ben!

The water in the moat is pink! Cute! I’ve made it into the castle courtyard, and there are chickens everywhere.

Bearing gifts (the four in the grid) I crossed the moat and am in the castle. Now if I could just find that princess I've heard so much about.

The comments at Crosshare mentioned Naticks, but I thought the fill was fairly straightforward, especially by comparison. But that "POS machine" at 75A had me doing a double take as I have often used those same three letters to describe machines (currently, my Fios remote, which can change the TV channels but not the volume).

That was fun! (Though perhaps not as much fun as hearing me string together random entries before I landed on "the one.")

Fun puzzle!
N.B. The show referenced in 63A has been in the news a lot this past week -- apparently it's being cancelled after many years and loyal viewers are not happy to say the least.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

I've been pro-MOATED! Crossed the water after a little struggle with the fill. Can't leave the puzzle sit around though, its likely to generate too much present expectation! Thanks Ben.

NUDGES!I am always willing to give nudges where needed; metas should be about fun, not frustration. Send me what you have done so far because often you are closer than you think!

Storming the castle.

Submission was the difficult part.

Thanks for that comment... I also found a lot of pesky alligators in that submission moat, but after seeing your post I found a path. Castle stormed, tho not without a little collateral damage on the way in.

"POS" can mean "point of sale". Is this just an Australian thing, perhaps?
